Layer 1: Stay dry
It is important that your inner layer is moisture wicking, so you avoid getting cold. The best solution is a polyester material combined with an elastic fibre to maintain your freedom to move.
Layer 2: Keep warm
The middle layer should be insulating so you can keep warm. In the spring and autumn periods, just two layers are often sufficient, namely a moisture wicking layer and an insulating layer.
Layer 3: Weather protection
The most important thing for the outer layer is the ability to protect you against the weather with wind and waterproof properties. But breathability is another essential characteristic. High breathability is important to keep warm as you will get wet and then cold if you cannot get rid of the moisture.
