Dress in layers

As the temperatures begin to drop, the time has come to refresh our winter wardrobes. Keeping warm is not always a matter of simply throwing on the heaviest coat you can find. It is about choosing the right garments from inside out, following the dress in layers principle. The right workwear outfit is one which matches both your level of activity and the climate you work in. By dressing in layers you will be prepared for mild, harsh and wet winter weather.

Whether you need a moisture-wicking inner layer, an insulating middle layer or a wind and waterproof outer layer, you will find everything you need here at MASCOT. By dressing in layers, you're guaranteed optimal protection in all weather and work conditions.

Layer 1: Stay dry

For your base layer, it is important to choose a moisture-wicking garment that can lead moisture away from your body and stop it from making you cold. The best solution is to choose a polyester material combined with an elastic fibre so you will also enjoy full freedom of movement.

Your innermost layer of clothing should be both moisture wicking and quick drying. Most materials absorb moisture from the body, but some can also transport moisture away from the body. This ensures that you stay dry and avoid any undesirable cooling of the body.

Layer 2: Stay warm

Your middle layer should be insulating in order to keep you warm. The milder seasons often require just two layers – a moisture wicking layer and an insulating layer.

In some working conditions, two layers of clothing will be enough to keep you warm. The insulating layer needs to be insulating and to keep you warm, while any damp needs to be eliminated. Your second layer of clothing needs to be able to keep you warm in cold conditions without limiting your freedom of movement.

MASCOT's range includes products with innovative CLIMASCOT® Lightweight Insulation lining. This is a lining that has a very high insulation efficiency and is also very breathable. CLIMASCOT® lining is lightweight and takes up very little space when compressed. That is why products with CLIMASCOT® are ideal for using as a second layer – they simply keep you nice and warm without restricting your movements.

Layer 3: Stay protected from the elements

The most important function of your outer later is to keep you protected from the elements by being both wind and waterproof. High breathability is also important to keep you warm because if you are unable to eliminate damp, you will get wet and soon after you will start to feel chilly.

Whether your clothing needs to be windproof, water-repellent or waterproof will naturally depend on the surrounding conditions. Waterproof clothing keeps all water completely out as the products have taped seams. Water-repellent clothing does not have taped seams and thus there is a risk that some water may penetrate in through the seams. MASCOT's range includes several jackets that are certified according to the cold protection standard EN 342 and the rainfall standard EN 343.
